The new ombudsman is not Petersburg against the gay parade

Alexey Kozyrev, Commissioner for Human Rights in St. Petersburg, fully admits the possibility of holding a gay parade in the northern capital.

He recalled the right to freedom of assembly and demonstrations, as well as equality rights of both sexes, including those adhering to non-traditional sexual orientation. “For God’s sake – Kozyrev said, replying to the question of the attitude towards the gay parade. – If there is a right, why not be?”

In this case the Ombudsman expressed the view that the authorities in Moscow unnecessarily stiff opposition in the city holding a gay pride parade. “I think that Moscow is struggling to harm himself,” – quoted Alexei Kozyrev, “Interfax”.

But instead of Moscow, whose power has never been allowed to hold a gay pride parade, and St. Petersburg gay parade in 2010 may be held in Minsk. In Minsk a meeting of the organizing committee of the Slavonic gay pride parade, whose participants finally approved on 15 May this year as the date for a public rally in support of tolerance and respect for human rights and freedoms of persons of homosexual orientation in Belarus and Russia.

One of the organizers Nikolai Alexeyev said that Russia advocates the rights of gays and lesbians are going to come to Minsk and Belarus to support its adherents. The initiators of the action, he said, intend in the near future to apply to hold the event in Minsk city executive committee. How to say the organizers, “an early submission of an application for the rally will, if necessary, to seek justice in court before the date of the parade, and in case of failure to agree on action the organizers intend to appeal to the Committee on Human Rights.
