Spanish bears likened local Habsburg

Researchers from the University of Oviedo, conducted genetic analysis of two normal populations of brown bears living in the mountains of Spain. It turned out that at least the past 50 years, no connection between the populations did not exist, and bears the risk to disappear from the Iberian Peninsula due to hereditary diseases.

Genetic analysis

material for the work were samples of faeces and hair in two populations of brown bears (Ursus arctos), collected from 2004 to 2006. Genetic analysis revealed that 146 sites were in the 39 western populations of bears and 9 – to the east. It turned out that the level of genetic diversity in populations of 45% in the west and 25% in the east. According to one of the researchers – Trinidad Perez (Trinidad Pérez), a level of genetic diversity – one of the lowest for this type of described in the literature, while this option is very important for the adaptability and survival. But the level of genetic differences between populations was 41%. This value has generally corresponds rather different kinds.

Anxiety

The results can be given only one explanation. There was no exchange of genetic information between the two populations did not occur for at least 50 years old – bears mired in the closely related links. And in the near future can begin the process of extinction due to hereditary diseases. In general, bears are crowned in the footsteps of the Spanish Hapsburgs.

The Spanish Hapsburgs

The Spanish branch of the dynasty Habsburg rule from 1516 to 1700. Last King of Spain in this branch of Charles II died in 1700, leaving no heirs. More recently, scientists showed that this was a result of closely related marriages. Instead of the usual eight prababushek and pradedushek (which is easy to calculate), he had only four. Due to the great variety of hereditary diseases to have children he could not physically. However, he could not even walk without assistance. One of the defects even widely known under the name «Habsburg lip» and captured in a number of portraits. It is serving the narrow lower jaw and bulging lower lip.
